Abstract

Terpenes and flavonoids are the main pharmacological components of the medicinal plant Alpinia oxyphylla(Miq.).Our previous studies identified several genes related to the biosynthesis of its representative components,nootkatone and kaempferol.To further identify the candidate genes responsible for the significant differences in the contents of these two substances between different regions,this study quantitatively analyzed the expression of these genes via real-time quantita-tive PCR.We compared the relative expression differences in A.oxyphylla samples from different regions and selected genes whose expression levels were consistent with the contents of nootkatone and kaempferol as key candidate genes.The results revealed that the genes Cluster-27812.24310 and Cluster-27812.43619,which are involved in the biosynthesis of nootkatone and kaempferol in A.oxyphylla,respectively,exhibited significant expression differences across different regions.In particular,the expression level of Cluster-27812.24310 was consistent with the content of nootkatone,indicating that it is a positive regulatory gene for nootkatone biosynthesis.These findings provide a reference for the functional analysis of genes related to the quality differences in A.oxyphylla and further research on the molecular mechanisms involved.
