Abstract

Large amounts of sea ice in high-latitude areas would appear around the nearshore nuclear power plants in the cold region.The widespread ice might block the water intake,which could threaten the safe operation of nuclear power plants.Therefore,preventing large amounts of sea ice from entering the water intake of nuclear power plants is an important issue for the safety of nearshore nuclear power plants in cold regions.The influence of anti-icing measures on the dynamic characteristics of sea ice pile-up subjected to different ice conditions is rare.This paper first investigated the ice conditions of a nearshore nuclear power plant in the Bohai Sea.Six sea ice scenarios were analyzed for the critical sea ice condition.The ice-resistant conical structures and ice barrier networks were studied.Based on the discrete element-smoothed particle hydrodynamics(DEM-SPH)method,the effect of flow direction,flow velocity,and the ice thickness on the sea ice pile-up and the efficiency of anti-icing measurement was analyzed.The results show that the height of sea ice accumulation increases when the ice thickness and flow velocity increase.It was found that the height of ice accumulation increased significantly when the angle between the ice sheet and the ice-resistant structure was 60°.The flow direction and ice thickness were the main factors for increasing the height of the sea ice pile-up.The efficiency of the anti-icing structure could increase with the ice speeds and ice thickness increasing.Reasonable anti-icing measures can effectively reduce the amount of ice flow into the water intake.The ice-breaking cones reduce ice size and dissipate ice kinetic energy.Ice barrier nets effectively obstruct drifting ice and limit the volume of floating ice entering into the water intake open channel.This paper can provide a scientific basis for the design of the anti-icing measures for the nearshore nuclear power plants in the cold region.
