摘要

Abstract

Barley(Hordeum vulgare L.)has been adopted for both human staple food and livestock forage,and it is one of the earliest domesticated and one of the most geographically widely cultivated crops.Deciphering barley genomic information is of great sig-nificance for understanding its domestication,evolution,environmental adaptation and genetic diversity,as well as facilitates the min-ing of important functional genes and its genetic improvement.As a member of the Triticeae,barley has a large genome with a high pro-portion of repetitive sequences,making the assembly of the genome challenging.In recent years,tremendous progresses have been made in barley genomic research,including the de novo assembly and annotation of the genome,which reveal its basic genomic charac-teristics,while a pan-genome,consisting of 76 barley genomes,has been constructed.This article comprehensively reviews the pro-gress achieved in the field of barley genomics over the past 20 years,and discusses the origin,domestication history and the application values of barley.This review also extends our insight into the prospect of constructing a higher-quality barley genome assembly and its potential values on barley genomic research and future applications for the genetic engineering and breeding.
