Abstract
Objective:To investigate the chain mediation effects of social support and coping styles between neuroticism and communication skills in patients with head and neck cancer who underwent tracheotomy.Methods:A total of 217 pa-tients with head and neck cancer who underwent tracheotomy at Sichuan Cancer Hospital between January 2023 and June 2024 were enrolled in this study.Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised Short Scale,Chinese Version,Social Support Rating Scale,Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire,and Chinese Version of Speech Handicap Index were adminis-tered in this study.Results:The mean scores were as follows:neuroticism(54.32±9.95),coping styles(18.79±7.24),social support(40.86±9.02),and speech disorders(73.23±24.24).Speech disorders showed a significant positive cor-relation with neuroticism(r=0.413,P＜0.01)and significant negative correlations with both coping styles(r=-0.410,P＜0.01)and social support(r=-0.402,P＜0.01).Active coping and social support partially mediated the relationship be-tween neuroticism and speech disorders,with mediation effect values of 0.716 and 0.360,respectively.A significant chain mediation effect was observed between these variables,with an effect size of 0.251,accounting for 7.42％ of the total effect.Conclusion:For patients with head and neck cancer who underwent tracheotomy,while their personality traits may remain stable,actively modifying coping strategies and enhancing social support represent key approaches to alleviate speech disor-ders and improve communication effectiveness.关键词
