Abstract

Equibiaxial planar tension test is the primary method for obtaining the mechanical properties of hyperelastic materials.First,the stress-stretch formula for hyperelastic thin film materials was derived based on the strain energy function.Then,in response to the limitations of current equibiaxial planar tension test methods,a multifunctional equibiaxial planar tension test apparatus was proposed,which adopted the equibiaxial planar tension test method based on single-point corner tension.The equibiaxial planar tension tests for hyperelastic electroactive polymer(EAP)film were carried out.The results were compared with those of equibiaxial planar tension tests based on two-point corner fixation.Finally,theoretical calculations and finite element simulations were performed using the Yeoh model to analyze the effects of different stretching methods on the test accuracy.The results showed that within the small strain range,the calculated results of stress-stretch curves of the single-point corner equibiaxial tension and two-point fixed tension matched closely.However,as the stretch ratio increased,stress shielding at the corner regions in the two-point fixed equibiaxial tension led to worsened strain uniformity.The stress in this case exceeded that of the single-point corner tension,which was validated by simulation analysis.Simulation results showed that the error in equibiaxial planar tensile tests increased with the stretching ratio.In both stretching methods,the axial strain variation within 80%of the total length from the center of the sample did not exceed 5%.When the nominal stretch ratio was λn=4,the stretching ratio at the center of the sample with single-point corner equibiaxial tension was 3.592,and the calculated stress error was approximately 2.2%.
