Abstract

Polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)composites were prepared by physical blending of hexachloro-cyclotriphosphonitrile(HCCP),octavinyl sesquisiloxane(OvPOSS),and triethyl phosphate(TEP).The effect of HCCP on the thermal stability and flame retardancy of OvPOSS1%/PMMA composite system was investigated.The study found that the six-membered ring structure of-N=P in HCCP and the elements N,P,and Cl can work in synergy with the Si-O octahedral structure and the Si element in OvPOSS to hinder the movement and thermal decomposition of the PMMA molecular chains.The temperatures at which the PMMA composite loses 5%and 50%of its weight were 196.6℃ and 381.3℃,respectively,the glass transition temperature was 174℃,and the carbon residue rate of PMMA composite was 15.75%when the mass fraction of HCCP was 20%,reaching UL 94 V-1 flame retardancy.It could effectively alleviate the problem of poor interface compatibility when added 10%TEP in OvPOSS1%/PMMA composite system.However,TEP would have a nucleophilic substitution reaction with HCCP,resulting in a significant decrease in the transparency of the composite system.
