A New Perspective on the Reasons for the Qin Dynasty's Unification of China
摘要
Abstract
The unification of the Six States by the Qin is a pivotal event in Chinese history,marking the end of the prolonged fragmentation during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods and the establishment of the first centralized imperial dynasty—the Qin Dynasty(221-206 BCE).Initially a small state in the western region,Qin gradually gained strength and ultimately unified China.The causes of its success have long been the subject of scholarly inquiry.In recent years,numerous significant archaeological discoveries spanning the Warring States,Qin,and Han periods—particularly the excavation and analysis of bamboo and wooden slips—have illuminated various facets of Qin society,including its politics,economy,military,and ideological culture,in greater detail and clarity.Drawing on newly uncovered bamboo and wooden slips,as well as recent archaeological findings from historical sites,this paper offers a comprehensive examination of the factors that contributed to Qin's unification of the Six States.Specifically,it explores Shang Yang's legal and administrative reforms,the management of equine resources,the governance of newly conquered territories,military logistics,talent strategy,and the development of a collective sense of national identity.关键词
