Abstract

Direct contact condensation of steam submerged jet in subcooled water has attracted widespread attention due to its high heat and mass transfer rates.In this study,a visualization experimental system was developed to investigate steam submerged jet in a pipe.High-speed cameras were used to record condensation phenomena within a transparent pipe.The steam plume shape was characterized,and key parameters such as penetration length and expansion width were extracted.An empirical correlation for the dimensionless steam plume penetration length was also proposed.The results show that under 150 experimental conditions,five typical steam plume shapes were observed:hemispherical,conical,contraction-expansion-contraction,elliptical,and divergent.The dimensionless plume penetration length increases significantly with increasing steam mass flux and subcooled water temperature,but decreases sharply as the water flow Reynolds increases.The measured dimensionless penetration length ranges from 0.8 to 4.5,and the predicted values from the proposed correlation show a deviation of less than±20%compared to the experimental data.
