Aesthetic Interpretation of Psychological Anxiety in a Love Story Aimed at Self-Rescue
摘要
Abstract
Despite existing diverse interpretations of Lu Xun's novella Regret for the Past,this paper argues that the work emerges from a literary imagination rooted in Lu Xun's inner anxiety following his acceptance of Xu Guangping's romantic pursuit.Lu Xun's relationship with Xu Guangping was,in essence,a self-rescue act amid his psychological crisis,rather than a pure longing for love or desire driven by instinct.On one hand,Lu Xun sought to fulfill his role under the guise of romance;on the other,his self-awareness left him doubting his capacity for love.Moreover,due to his lack of experience with conventional family life,he could not envision how intimate relationships between lovers might be constructed or sustained in daily life,fearing a repetition of the tragic dynamic he shared with Zhu An.As a literary outlet for his unease and pressure,Regret for the Past adopts a self-examining lens of"carving out one's heart to consume it"—extracting the"petty self"within his psyche,driven by survival instincts,and personifying it as the male protagonist Juansheng.Simultaneously,Lu Xun consciously or unconsciously synthesized his interactions with both Xu Guangping and Zhu An to craft the female protagonist Zijun,embedding her with a narrative pattern of"Xu Guangping walking the path toward Zhu An,"while offering a pessimistic,cautionary projection of their future.The complexity of Lu Xun's psychological state during this period resulted in a polyphonic text interweaving themes of"guilt","fault"and"rationality".关键词
