Effect of Acid-alkali Etching and Silane Coupling Agent Modification on Mechanical Properties of Basalt Fiber Composites

摘要

Abstract

Basalt fibers(BF)were modified using acid-alkali etching and silane coupling agent methods.Modified basalt fiber-polypropylene(MBF-PP)composites were prepared by the melt-blending method.The effects of different concentrations of HCl(1,2,3 mol/L)and NaOH(1,2,3 mol/L)in combination with different types of silane coupling agents(KH550,KH560,KH570)on the mechanical properties of the composites were investigated.The results showed that the tensile strength of the MBF-PP composite prepared with BF modified by 1 mol/L HCl etching was 19.561 9 MPa,which is 6.8%higher than that of pure PP.The tensile strength of the MBF-PP composite prepared with BF modified by 2 mol/L NaOH etching was 20.066 7 MPa,representing a 9.5%increase compared to pure PP.The tensile strength of composites modified with NaOH was higher than that of those modified with HCl,but higher concentrations were required.The mechanical properties of MBF-PP composites modified with HCl and KH550 in combination were lower than those modified individually.The mechanical properties of the MBF-PP composite modified with KH570 are the highest,but at the same time,its ductility is also relatively high.
