On the Phenomenon of"Poetically Sitting and Watching"in Chinese Classical Poetry

Abstract
Classical Chinese poets often composed poems and lyrics from the posture of"sitting and watching,"which has since become a hallmark"phenomenon"in classical Chinese poetry and lyricism.This duo—"sitting"and"watching"—encom-passes both the physical stance and the act of observation,linking the subject of the action with the external world being ob-served.It simultaneously conveys the spatiotemporal context of the poetry while projecting the poet's image,emotions,and life circumstances.In classical poetry and lyrics,"sitting and watching"is a distinctive posture,seemingly detached from the spatio-temporal domain.Yet,it constantly probes the inner and outer dimensions of the soul,symbolizing the poet's deep,reserved state of being.This posture suggests sentiments of stillness,non-action,quiet contemplation,or distant reflection.In the poet's act of"sitting and watching,"time flows,scenes shift,and within this lies profound meaning and aesthetic allure,creating a unique atmosphere of poetic and lyrical depth.关键词
