Exploring the Philological Value of Jia Yi's Xinshu(新书)
摘要
Abstract
Jia Yi,a renowned thinker of the Western Han Dynasty,left behind a body of work primarily preserved in the Xin-shu(新书).This text is a compilation formed through multiple stages of re-editing during its transmission,and its varying forms reflect the complex interplay between the survival and loss of Jia Yi's writings and the evolving literary perspectives of successive compilers.Xinshu extensively cites pre-Qin classics,miscellaneous discourses,and sayings of various philosophical schools,pre-serving numerous fragments and lost writings from before the Han dynasty.As such,it holds significant value for textual collation and the recovery of lost literature.More importantly,the integration of the three sections—Shi Shi(事势),Lian Yu(连语),and Za Shi(杂事)—into a single collection offers a rare glimpse into the integrative nature of intellectual discourse during the Zhou,Qin,and Western Han periods.This allows for a deeper understanding of the identity of the philosophers and the nature of their scholarship,and encourages a dialectical perspective on the relationship between wen(textual expression)and xian(docu-mentary evidence).关键词
