Effects of mixed silage of rice straw and Pleurotus eryngii spent mushroom substrate on production performance,slaughter performance,and carcass traits in beef cattle

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effects of mixed silage of rice straw and Pleurotus eryngii spent mushroom substrate(PR)on the production performance,slaughter performance,and carcass traits in beef cattle.Thirty healthy beef cattle of similar age and body weight were randomly divided into three groups(10 replicates per group,one cattle per replicate).Group Ⅰ(DS group)received dry rice straw as roughage,Group Ⅱ(15%PR group)received mixed silage containing 15%PR and 85%rice straw(fresh weight),Group Ⅲ(30%PR group)received mixed silage containing 30%PR and 70%rice straw(fresh weight).The pre-test period was 10 days and the formal test period was 60 days.The results showed that the average daily feed intake of the 30%PR group was extremely higher than that of the DS group and the 15%PR group(P<0.01),and the feed cost and weight gain cost of the 15%PR and 30%PR groups were extremely lower than those of the DS group(P<0.01).The intake of neutral detergent fiber(NDF),organic matter(OM),and total energy(GE)in the 30%PR group were extremely higher than that in the DS and 15%PR groups(P<0.01).The intake of acidic detergent fiber(ADF),crude protein(CP),and crude fat(EE)in the 15%PR and 30%PR groups were extremely higher than that in the DS group(P<0.01).The apparent digestibility of dry matter(DM)and NDF in the DS group were extremely higher than that in the 15%PR and 30%PR groups(P<0.01),while the apparent digestibility of EE was extremely lower than that in the 15%PR and 30%PR groups(P<0.01).The apparent digestibility of GE in the DS and 15%PR groups was extremely higher than that in the 30%PR group(P<0.01).There were no significant differences in the slaughter performance-related indicators among each group(P>0.05).The thigh circumference of the 15%PR group was significantly larger than that of the DS and 30%PR groups(P<0.05),and the gastric weight of the 15%PR group was significantly greater than that of the 30%PR group(P<0.05).Studies show that feeding beef cattle with a mixed silage feed of 85%rice straw and 15%PR can reduce feed costs and weight gain costs,improve carcass traits,and enhance the economic benefits of breeding.关键词
