Effects of supplemental feeding of ellagic acid on growth performance,nutrient apparent digestibility,serum antioxidant indexes,and hormone in weaning lambs

Abstract
The experiment was conducted to explore the effects of different doses of ellagic acid on the growth performance,nutrient apparent digestibility,serum antioxidant indexes,and hormone of weaned lambs.Forty five Hu sheep weaning lambs weighing(21.78±2.37)kg and there months old(±five days)were randomly divided into three groups with 15 replicates in each group and one lamb in each replicate.The control group was fed with basic diet,and the experimental groups Ⅰ and Ⅱ were fed with 15 and 30 mg/kg·BW ellagic acid per day respectively on the basis of basic diet.The pre-test period was seven days,and the formal test period was 60 days.The results showed that the total weight gain and average daily gain of the experimental groups were significantly higher than those of the control group(P＜0.05),and the feed to gain ratio was significantly lower than that of the control group(P＜0.05).The digestibility of phosphorus in the experimental groups was significantly higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05),and the digestibility of dry matter,organic matter in the experimental group Ⅱ were significantly higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05).The content of malondialdehyde in the experimental groups was significantly lower than that in the control group(P＜0.05),the activity of superoxide dismutase in the experimental group Ⅱ was significantly higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05),the total antioxidant capacity in the experimental groups was significantly improved(P＜0.05).The content of growth hormone in the experimental groups was significantly higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05),the content of insulin-like growth factor-1 in the experimental group Ⅱ was significantly higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05).The results show that supplemental ellagic acid can improve the growth performance and nutrient apparent digestibility of weaned lambs,enhance antioxidant capacity,and increase the concentrations of growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor-1,and the effect is the best when supplemental ellagic acid is 30 mg/kg·BW.关键词
