Abstract

This study investigated the effects of different levels of turmeric extract on the growth performance,immunity,and intestinal microbiota in broilers.A total of 1 600 one-day-old AA broilers were randomly divided into four groups with four replicates each(100 broilers per replicate).The control group was fed a corn-soybean meal basal diet,while the experimental groups received the basal diet supplemented with 200(Group 1),400(Group 2),and 800 mg/kg(Group 3)of turmeric extract.The trial lasted 42 days.The results showed that at 22~42 days and 1~42 days,the average daily weight gain of broilers in Group 2 was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05),and the feed to gain ratio was significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05).Compared with the control group,the spleen index in Group 2 was significantly increased(P<0.05).The concentrations of serum interleukin-10(IL-10)and immunoglobulin G(IgG)in Groups 2 and 3 were significantly increased(P<0.05),and the content of serum immunoglobulin A(IgA)in Group 2 was significantly increased(P<0.05).The content of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)in the serum in each experimental group was significantly decreased(P<0.05).The number of operational classification units of intestinal microbiota in Group 2 was significantly increased(P<0.05).The relative abundance of Proteobacteria in the intestines in Groups 2 and 3 was significantly decreased(P<0.05),and the relative abundance of Thick-walled bacteria was significantly increased(P<0.05).The relative abundance of Lactobacillus in the intestinal tract in each experimental group significantly increased(P<0.05),while the relative abundance of Clostridium and Sphingomonas significantly decreased(P<0.05).The relative abundance of Shigella Escherichia coli in the intestines in Groups 2 and 3 was significantly decreased(P<0.05).Studies show that adding an appropriate amount of turmeric extract to the diet of AA broilers can enhance growth performance,immunity and improve intestinal health.The suitable addition amount is 400 mg/kg.
