Abstract

In response to the requirements of high precision and high optical quality for transparent components,a 4 mm thick large-sized polycarbonate plate was selected to conduct analyses on warpage,thickness,and residual stress under different forming methods.For conventional injection molding(CIM),parameters such as melt temperature,mold temperature,holding pressure,and holding time were examined.For injection compression molding(ICM),parameters including melt temperature,mold temperature,compression stroke,and compression speed were investigated.The results indicate that the holding parameters of CIM significantly affect the thickness and its uniformity,warpage deformation,and residual stress of the plate.In contrast,the mold temperature and compression parameters of ICM have a greater impact on thickness and warpage.Comparisons reveal that ICM can not only control the shrinkage and dimensional uniformity of the plate in the thickness direction but also reduce the thickness deviation from approximately 0.25 mm in CIM to 0.05 mm,achieving an 80%reduction.The maximum warpage deformation also decreased from 0.62 mm in CIM to 0.51 mm,with an improvement of 18%.Moreover,ICM can significantly lower the residual stress of the product,thereby reducing the risk of cracking during subsequent assembly and use.It is an effective method for manufacturing low-stress,high-precision,and low-distortion optical products.
