Abstract

As a vital ecological barrier and economic lifeline in China,the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin are of paramount importance.This study focuses on the spatiotemporal changes in ecological quality in the basin from 2002 to 2022,aiming to provide a solid theoretical foundation for ecological conservation and sustainable development.Utilizing the Google Earth Engine(GEE)platform,MODIS remote sensing imagery was reconstructed through Harmonic Analysis of Time Series(HANTS),and a Remote Sensing Ecological Index(RSE)was developed based on principal component analysis to assess the ecological quality dynamics of the region.The results demonstrate that the HANTS reconstruction method significantly enhances the explanatory power of the RSEI,with the contribution rate of the first principal component exceeding,86%.The spatial distribution rate of ecological quality exhibits a distinct"diagonal"pattern-with poor to moderate ecological conditions predominantly in the northwest,and good to excellent conditions mainly in the southeast.During the study period,the basin experienced an initial phase of degradation(2002-2010)followed by a phase of improvement(2010-2022).Over the 20-year span,approximately 4.73%of the area maintained stable ecological quality,53.81%showed signs of improvement,while 41.46%faced a risk of degradation.
