Optimization and Validation of Temperature for USP Warm-mix Asphalt Mixture Construction

Abstract
In order to reasonably determine the construction temperature of usual-temperature synthetic pitch(USP)warm-mix asphalt mixture,the viscosity variation of SBS modified asphalt under different temperatures and USP content was tested;Combined with the requirements of asphalt viscosity range in JTG E20-2011 Standard test methods of Bitumen and bituminous mixtures for highway engineering,the optimal USP content and the corresponding construction temperature range were determined;Based on the principle of heat balance,the heating temperature of asphalt and aggregate was deduced.The results show that temperature and USP content have interactive effects on asphalt viscosity;Within the low temperature range(105~125 ℃),the increase of USP content will significantly reduce asphalt viscosity,However,at high temperature(>165 ℃),the regulation effect of temperature on asphalt viscosity is enhanced;Under the combination of SBS modified asphalt and 5.0%USP,the recommended heating temperatures of asphalt and aggregate are 150~160 ℃ and 171~176 ℃,respectively.And the mixing and com-paction temperatures of asphalt mixture are 151~156 ℃ and 142~145 ℃,respectively.The engineering verifica-tion shows that the core sample of USP warm-mix AC-16 asphalt mixture surface layer paved by the above tempera-ture parameters is complete and compact,and the porosity is 3.6%~4.6%;All the 60 ℃ dynamic stability,freeze-thaw splitting strength ratio and-10 ℃ low-temperature bending strain of USP warm-mix asphalt mixture meet the technical requirements for dense graded asphalt mixture in JTG F40-2004 Technical specifications for construction of highway asphalt pavement.The research results can provide reference for the promotion and application of USP warm-mix asphalt technology.关键词
