Classification of surface reflectance anisotropy characteristics and its application in reflectance angle normalization

Abstract
The reflection of solar radiation on the earth's surface exhibits anisotropic characteristics.An angle normalization approach is applied to its reflectance data to reduce the errors and biases introduced by the wide viewing angle of the wide field of view(WFV)sensor on the GF-1 satellite.The surface's anisotropic reflectance features were classified using anisotropic flatness index(AFX)and the perpendicular anisotropic flatness index(PAFX).A global-scale bidirectional reflectance dis-tribution function(BRDF)archetype database was established based on global time-series MODIS BRDF products.Then,the feasibility of reflectance angle normalization for BRDF archetypes and the applicable conditions for different BRDF archetypes are discussed based on simulated MODIS directional reflectance data.Finally,the archetype A2P2 was applied to GF-1 WFV data,and the data before and after correction was compared with the Landsat data.The results show that:① The introduction of PAFX index can improve the classification accuracy of surface anisotropic reflection characteristics.② Compared with the archetypes with stronger volume scattering,archetypes A2P2,A2P3,A3P1 and A3P2 can accurately correct the reflectance of the zenith angle direction in a wider range observation range.③ Applying the archetype A2P2 as prior BRDF knowledge for the angle normalization of GF-1 WFV data can significantly improve the consistency of reflectance.关键词
