A dataset of glacial lakes in the alpine mountains of Xinjiang in 2022

Abstract
The alpine mountains in Xinjiang are an important part of the High Mountain Asia.This area is home to numerous small-scale glacial lakes,some of which undergo rapid expansion within a short period,potentially triggering glacial lake outburst floods(GLOF).Therefore,improving the mapping accuracy of these small glacial lakes is crucial for a deeper understanding of the mechanisms behind glacial lake hazards.In this study,we extracted the maximum water extent(pping hm2)of glacial lakes in Xinjiang in 2022 using Sentinel-2 time-series imagery and the DUNet semantic segmentation model in conjunction with visual interpretation and quality control.Based on the relationship between glacial lakes and glaciers,the lakes were categorized into two types:glacier-fed lakes(further including supraglacial lakes,glacier-contacted lakes,and glacier-uncontacted lakes)and non-glacier-fed lakes.The resulting dataset provides information on glacial lakes in the alpine mountains of Xinjiang in 2022.The dataset has an absolute area error of 12.12 km2 and an average relative error of 6.14%.This dataset includes:(1)Shapefile data on the maximum distribution range of glacial lakes in Xinjiang and the distribution range of glacial lakes in Xinjiang in 2022;(2)Tabular data including statistics on the number and area of glacial lakes categorized by region,size,type,and elevation.The dataset is stored in.shp and.xlsx formats and serves as a valuable data resource for early warning of glacial lake disasters and evaluation of glacial lake disasters in Xinjiang.关键词
