Abstract

Fruit flavor is one of the most important quality traits for tomatoes.As a key volatile flavor compound,1-octen-3-one has significant contribution to the formation of tomato flavor.However,the genes regulating the content of 1-octen-3-one in tomato fruits have not yet been cloned.To elucidate the genetic regulatory mechanism,we utilized a recombinant inbred line(RIL)population derived from a cross between cultivated tomato 'Moneymaker'(Solanum lycopersicum)and wild currant tomato 'PI365967'(Solanum pimpinellifolium)in this study.By association analysis,we identified three QTLs closely related to 1-octen-3-one content.Among these QTLs,the locus qGTA1 on chromosome 1 was identified as the major QTL,contributing 20.18% of the phenotypic variation.By constructing a mapping population,qGTA1 was ultimately localized to a region of 465 kb.We predicted that Solyc01g103770,Solyc01g103720 and Solyc01g104070 were the possible candidate genes.This study lays the foundation for cloning the regulatory gene controlling 1-octen-3-one content in tomato fruits.
