Abstract

18Ni300,as a high-strength steel has a disadvantage of low plasticity.In this study,Mo/18Ni300 metal matrix composites were prepared by Selective lasermelting(SLM),and the effect of spherical metal Mo particles as reinforcement on the microstructure and mechanical properties of SLM-18Ni300 martensitic stainless steel was investigated.Under the optimal process parameters:laser power of 380W and scanning speed of 560 mm/s,Mo/18Ni300 composite material has the best comprehensive performance,with its density is 99.81%.The Mo particles in the sample are uniformly distributed in spherical shape and have a good metallurgical interface with the matrix.Meanwhile,some Mo particles are diffused into the matrix in the form of elements.With the increase of Mo content,the austenite content in the matrix showed an increasing trend.The tensile strength of SLM printed Mo/18Ni300 with 2 wt.%and 6 wt.%Mo particles decreased,but its plasticity and wear resistance were greatly improved,and the strong plastic volume increased from 17.66 GPa%to 21.50 GPa%,showing an increase of 21.74%.This study shows the feasibility of adjusting the strength-to-plastic ratio of 18Ni300 materials with metal Mo particles,and the potential of using refractory metal particles in the preparation of metal matrix composites by SLM method.
