Therapeutic Effect of Bilateral Lateral Rectus Recession in Children with Concomitant Exotropia across Age Groups

Abstract
Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of bilateral lateral rectus recession in children with concomitant exotropia across age groups.Methods The 98 pediatric patients were stratified by age into Group A(3-6 years,n=32),Group B(7-12 years,n=45),and Group C(13-18 years,n=21).All children underwent bilateral lateral rectus recession.The angle of deviation,stereopsis function,Child Intermittent Exotropia Questionnaire(Child-IXTQ)scores,and surgical success rates were compared among the three groups preoperative and postoperative.Results Comparison of postoperative distance and near deviation angles,as well as distance and near stereopsis function,among the three groups showed no statistically significant differences(P＞0.05).All postoperative measurements were significantly improved compared to preoperative values(P＜0.05).Postoperative Child-IXTQ scores in Group A were significantly higher than those in Groups B and C(P＜0.05).All three groups showed significant improvement in Child-IXTQ scores compared to preoperative baselines(P＜0.05).Among all three groups,surgical success rates showed no statistically significant differences between 1 d,1 month,and 3 month postoperative assessments(P＞0.05).However,the surgical success rates at both 1 month and 3 month follow-ups were significantly higher than the immediate postoperative rate at 1 d(P＜0.05).Conclusion Bilateral lateral rectus recession is effective for treating children with concomitant exotropia across different age groups.This procedure successfully corrects ocular misalignment and improves the angle of deviation,stereopsis function and quality of life,with particularly notable quality-of-life enhancement in younger children aged 3-6 years.关键词
