Digital transformation,multi-dimensional proximities and enterprise green low-carbon innovation:Empirical evidence from the spatial distance of Chinese listed companies

Abstract
Accelerating the green low-carbon innovation of enterprises can effectively promote the construction of ecological civilization,achieve the"dual carbon"goal and help the move towards green and high-quality development in China.The relationship between digital transformation and enterprise green low-carbon innovation is attracting a lot of scholarly attention.Along with the rapid growth of information and data,digital transformation provides convenience for enterprises to link with other innovative enterprises in a larger space,which means they are gradually entering the era of open innovation with freer flows of data elements and a wider range of impact transmission.Therefore,analysis of the mechanism of digital transformation affecting enterprise green low-carbon innovation under the effect of multi-dimensional spatial proximity can be of theoretical and practical significance for promoting the coordinated development of China's economic and social digitalization and green low-carbon development. This paper uses Chinese listed enterprises from 2007 to 2019 as the sample to empirically test the impact of digital transformation on enterprise green low-carbon innovation,and discusses the moderating effect of multi-dimensional proximity.The research innovations in this paper are as follows:First,combining spatial economics theory,innovation network theory and other theories,this paper reveals and validates the relationship between digital transformation and enterprise green low-carbon innovation.At the same time,multi-dimensional spatial proximity is incorporated into the above relational framework,and the internal mechanism of digital transformation affecting enterprise green low-carbon innovation under the effect of multi-dimensional spatial proximity is explored from the perspective of segmentation,such as enterprise geography,technology and market spatial proximity.It provides a new analytical perspective and empirical evidence for promoting the collaborative transformation and upgrading of enterprise digitalization and green low-carbon in digital economy development.Second,it provides reference for the measurement methods of the core variables in this paper.Combined with academic theories,national policies,industry development,enterprise practice and other multi-dimensional data,this paper uses a text analysis method to build a more comprehensive Chinese micro enterprise digital transformation glossary;According to the Green List of International Patent Classification,IPC patent categories related to clean,environmental protection,low-carbon,energy saving,emissions reduction and consumption reduction were selected,and matched with enterprise patent application data released by the State Intellectual Property Office of China to provide reference for reasonable measurement of enterprise green low-carbon innovation performance.This paper uses an artificial intelligence method to quantify the geographical proximity,technological proximity and market proximity of enterprises,which provides a useful supplement for measuring the multi-dimensional spatial proximity at the micro-subject level.Third,this paper considers the differences between the property rights and energy consumption attributes of enterprises,and further discusses the heterogeneous effects of digital transformation,multi-dimensional proximity and green low-carbon innovation for state-owned enterprises and non-state-owned enterprises,and high energy consuming enterprises and non-high energy consuming enterprises.The research findings not only enrich the theoretical framework of the impact of digital transformation on the green low-carbon innovation of enterprises,but also provide empirical evidence for China to formulate policies to promote the digitization of micro-entities,green low-carbon development and the realization of"double carbon"goals. The main conclusions are as follows:1)Digital transformation positively promotes enterprises overall green low-carbon innovation performance,but has little impact on strategic green and low-carbon innovation performance.This conclusion is still valid after endogeneity treatment,extension of the time window and replacement of the regression model.2)When examining the moderating effect of multi-dimensional spatial proximity,geographical proximity,technological proximity and market proximity positively regulate the promotion effect of digital transformation on the overall and substantive green low-carbon innovation performance of enterprises.3)The heterogeneity test shows that digital transformation of non-state-owned enterprises and non-high energy consuming enterprises has a stronger role in promoting the substantive green low-carbon innovation performance,while the digital transformation of non-state-owned enterprises and high energy consuming enterprises has a stronger role in promoting the overall green low-carbon innovation performance.The heterogeneity test of the moderating effect shows that in state-owned enterprises and non-high energy consuming enterprises,geographical proximity,technological proximity and market proximity positively regulate the promotion effect of digital transformation on the overall and substantive green low-carbon innovation performance of enterprises.In non-state-owned enterprises and high energy consuming enterprises,the positive moderating effect of technology proximity is not significant.This paper makes following suggestions:First,enterprises should actively promote the construction of open source co-creation and open sharing of digital resource systems.The second is to promote the deep integration of digital technology with manufacturing and research and development processes;enterprises need to match the allocation mode of green low-carbon innovation elements with external market demand by improving the connectivity of enterprise internal organization and the external market.Third is considering carrying out demonstration activities for the digital transformation of regional enterprises,building digital manufacturing demonstration factories,cultivating digital manufacturing pilot areas,and establishing digital technology innovation network alliances.In addition,enterprises are encouraged to use technology cooperation and sharing platforms to build open source think tank communities,strengthen technology and resource exchange/cooperation,and promote the healthy and orderly development of green low-carbon technology alliances.关键词
