Technological Development and the Spatial Expansion of Imperialism—The Case of American Technological Imperialism

Abstract
Since the second industrial and technological revolution,technological development has pushed United States technological imperialism to expand continuously in the spatial dimension,presenting a two-dimensional form of spatial expansion in which"exploring the world's geography and establishing links for the production of capital"are harmonized with each other.The first dimension is the expansion of the world's geospatial space.Technological development has pushed U.S.techno-imperialism to expand in land,sea and space,such as transportation technology and space exploration technology to push the U.S.bourgeoisie to explore the value of capital accumulation in the horizontal and vertical world geographic space.The second dimension is the spatial expansion of capital production,i.e.,technological development drives the expansion of U.S.technological imperialism in both material and immaterial spaces of production.For example,technologies of production and technologies of life have pushed the American bourgeoisie to establish capital links in both material and immaterial spaces of production and to maintain capitalist rule.Technological development provides new conditions for the spatial expansion of the capitalist mode of production and promotes the spatial expansion of the U.S.bourgeoisie to resolve or transfer contradictions,which constitutes the basic logic of the spatial expansion of U.S.technological imperialism.The two-dimensional spatial expansion of techno-imperialism is a manifestation of its maintenance of capitalist monopoly and domination.The two-dimensional spaces are symbiotic and intertwined with each other,jointly constructing the spatial expansion field of American technological imperialism.关键词
