The Distorted Nativism:Core Logic and Policy Path of Trump's Migration Governance Reform

Abstract
This article argues that nativism,which has historically triggered large-scale anti-immigrant movements in the United States,now serves as the ideological core of the Trump administration's migration governance reforms.Moreover,its distortion provides crucial support and strategic direction for Trump's exploitation of public"panic over the loss of subjectivity,"framing reform as a necessary response to a national crisis.In this process of distortion,nativism exerts influence across all aspects of U.S.migration governance,generating new analytical variables for understanding American society—such as the illusion of a welfare economy,the ideal of a new suburban order,reverse assimilation phenomena,and complex regional migration strategies among immigrants.Based on these,it anchors the trajectory of the Trump administration's two rounds of immigration reform.In terms of outcomes,this paradigm shift in migration governance—centered on a distorted form of nativism—not only redefines the meaning of"Americanization,"but also poses fundamental challenges to the improvement of U.S.democratic institutions and the fulfillment of international humanitarian obligations.关键词
