Abstract

Alternaria blotch of apple is a major foliar disease of apples caused by Alternaria alternata f.sp.mali.In our previous study,we first reported the strain QY-2 of A.alternata f.sp.mali with low virulence,which was co-infected by Alternaria altenata ourmia-like virus 1(AaMV1)and Alternaria altenata chrysovirus 1(AaCV1),as well as the virus-free strain VFQY2-1 obtained through virus-elimination.In this study,QY-2 and VFQY2-1 were confronted,obtaining the AaMV1 singly infected strain QY2-AaMV1.Biological experiments revealed the effects of AaMV1 infection on the biological traits of the host fungus.AaMV1 infection darkened the color of A.alternata f.sp.mali colonies,whose hyphae was slender,straight,and less branched.And the growth rate was significantly reduced.AaMV1 significantly weakened the pathogenicity of the host fungus and promoted hyphal fusion between strains.The results of this study lay the foundation for elucidating the mechanism of fungal viruses regulating the hypovirulence of host fungi and provide theoretical support for the use of fungal viruses to control plant fungal diseases.
