First-order Gradient Series Superconducting Quantum Interference Device Arrays

Abstract
Superconducting quantum interference device(SQUID)is the only choice for the readout of low-temperature particle detection such as superconducting transition-edge sensor(TES)due to its extremely low noise level,extremely high current sensitivity and low impedance characteristics.For TES signal readout applications,the first-order gradient series superconducting quantum interference device arrays(SSA)based on Nb/Al-AlOx/Nb Josephson junctions were developed.The first-order gradient structure is used by the loops,input coils,and feedback coils of each SQUID unit to reduce external magnetic field interference.The SQUID loop adopts an overlapping coupling method with the input coil and a cross-coupling method with the feedback coil.The results under liquid helium temperature conditions show that the input current sensitivity and feedback current sensitivity of arrays containing 2,8 and 16 SQUID units are almost consistent with the simulation values,which are 21.5 μA/Φ0 and 26.3 μA/Φ0(Φ0 is magnetic flux quantum),respectively.In addition,the flux-to-voltage transfer coefficient increases linearly as the number of SQUID units increases,while the total flux noise is inversely proportional to the square root of the number of SQUID units.The array containing 16 SQUID units exhibits the best noise performance:the total flux white noise is as low as 0.34×10-6 Φ0·Hz-1/2,total current white noise is as low as 7.3 pA·Hz-1/2 and device current noise is as low as 6.8 pA·Hz-1/2,which can meet TES's readout requirements for the weak current.关键词
