Evaluation of the fruit appearance and sugar/acid of 'Shenxin'strawberry under protected cultivation in Eastern China

Abstract
To explore the influence of different regional environments on fruit quality,using 'Shenxin' and the main cultivated strawberry cultivars in East China as materials,the stability and variation of various traits of'Shenxin'were analyzed by measuring the appearance and sugar and acid quality of fresh fruits from different regions.The results showed that the single fruit weight of 'Shenxin' in 5 production sites was 20-30 g,and the single fruit weight in 3 production sites was 30-40 g.'Shenxin'fruits from 5 production sites had a shape index(ratio of vertical diameter to horizontal diameter)ranging 1.0-1.2,lower than that of 'Benihoppe' and higher than that of'Yuexin',with an increasing tendency from south to north.'Shenxin'fruits from 6 production sites showed similar color and brilliance as compared with those of contrast cultivars,and its fruit firmness was lower than that of'Benihoppe'and higher than that of'Akihime'.Fruits from 5 among 8 production sites had a TSS content over 12%,with a decreasing tendency from south to north.The titratable acid(TA)content of'Shenxin'fruits was lower than that of'Benihoppe'and higher than that of'Yuexin'fruits,and TA content of'Shenxin'fruits from 4 production sites was between 0.51%-0.55%.The average ratio of TSS/TA was 20.4 for'Shenxin',near to that of'Benihoppe'and'Tianxianzui'fruits.In sum,the novel cultivar'Shenxin'displayed a wide adaptation with a high application potential in Eastern China beyond Shanghai,and early insulation measures(especially in Shandong and Anhui)could be useful to maintain the typical heart fruit shape and elevate the sugar/acid quality of this cultivar.关键词
