The Separation of High-Yield and High-Purity Xylose via a Boron Chemistry-Based Tandem Sugar Crystallization

Abstract
Hemicellulose acid hydrolysates contain diverse sugars,yet existing separation and purification processes re-main complex.This study presents a simplified and efficient method for isolating and extracting crystalline xylose from hemicellulose hydrolysates.By leveraging the preferential selectivity of phenylboronic acid toward xylose,a xylose-boro-nate ester XDE intermediate was formed.Subsequent transesterification with propylene glycol in ethyl acetate enabled the precipitation of high-purity crystalline xylose.The process achieved an average xylose yield of 75%and purity up to 99.8%over five operational cycles.Notably,this green solvent-based tandem system operated at ambient temperature,eliminating industrial-scale procedures including decolorization,desalination,and recrystallization.The developed methodology demonstrates efficient xylose extraction with minimized energy consumption and environmental impact.关键词
