Soil microbial community structures and their influencing factors of evergreen broad-leaved forest and coniferous forest in southern China

Abstract

Forests are an important part of terrestrial ecosystem.Studying soil microbial community characteristics in different forest types in southern China is crucial for understanding forest ecosystem structure and function.To investigate structure of soil microbial communities and their influencing factors in two forest types(evergreen broad-leaved forest and evergreen coniferous forest)in southern China,phospholipid fatty acid(PLFA)analysis,correlation analysis,and principal component analysis(PCA)were conducted.The results showed no significant difference in soil physical and chemical properties between the two forest types.However,there was a significant difference in soil microbial community structure.Fungal biomass in the evergreen broad-leaved forest(36.315 nmol·g-1)was significantly higher than in the evergreen coniferous forest(27.802 nmol·g-1).The relative abundance of microbial groups in both forest types followed the order:Gram-positive bacteria>Gram-negative bacteria>fungi>actinomycetes>arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi.Furthermore,the Shannon diversity index and species richness of the tree layer in the evergreen broad-leaved forest were significantly higher than those in the evergreen coniferous forest(P<0.05).Conversely,the shrub layer dominance index of the evergreen coniferous forest was significantly higher than that in the evergreen broad-leaved forest(P<0.05).Fungal biomass in both forest types showed significant positively correlations with soil organic carbon,total nitrogen,and total carbon content.Additionally,fungal biomass in the evergreen coniferous forest was significantly positively correlated with available potassium,ammonia nitrogen,and soil moisture content.
