Abstract

In order to reduce the compositional variability of recycled asphalt pavement(RAP)materials and improve its utilization efficiency in high content recycled asphalt mixtures,a triple variability control technology path of ho-mogenization pretreatment-fine grading-gradation optimization was constructed.The coefficient of variation of the oil to stone ratio for RAP with the coarse particle size of 7.00~15.00 mm was reduced from 6.37%to 2.29%(de-creased by about 64%)by a four level fine grading system;At the same time,the coefficient of variation of the key sieve size with 4.75 mm was reduced from 6.52%to 2.25%(decreased by about 65%),and the coefficient of vari-ation of the 0.075 mm sieve size was reduced from 8.91%to 5.03%(decreased by about 44%).Under the condition of 60%RAP content,the mean dynamic stability of recycled asphalt mixture was improved by 5.0%,the maximum flexural tensile strain was increased by 5.6%,the freeze-thaw splitting strength ratio was increased by 6.4%,and the fracture energy was increased by 9.6%through fine grading and gradation optimization(the pass rate of particles be-low 4.75 mm was controlled between the middle and upper limits of AC-13 gradation).The results of macro and mi-cro experiments show that the combination of fine grading and gradation optimization can significantly improve the high-temperature stability,low-temperature crack resistance,and water stability of recycled asphalt mixtures,and improve the adhesion quality of asphalt aggregate at the micro level.This research result can provide quantitative ba-sis and technical reference for the variability control and mix proportion optimization of high content RAP recycled asphalt mixtures.
