Rapid determination method of geothermal well spacing in the Rongdong area of the Xiong'an New Area

Abstract

As a clean and renewable energy source,geothermal resources play an important role in achieving the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.The Xiong'an New Area is rich in geothermal resources;however,the rapid methods for determining well spacing during development and utilization have not been fully studied.In this study,the Rongdong area of the Xiong'an New Area was selected as the research focus.Based on the protection radius method for single-well exploitation rights,the effects of thermal reservoir thickness,single well production and porosity on the well spacing were analyzed.The results show that the thermal reservoir thickness and single-well production were the primary factors affecting the well spacing,with sensitivity coefficients ranging from 0.41 to 0.61 and from 0.43 to 0.56,respectively.In a contrast,porosity has a minor effect,with a sensitivity coefficient of only 0.01.Based on these findings,a rapid reference table for the spacing of geothermal wells was established by using thermal reservoir thickness and single-well production as key parameters.Additionally,a simplified calculation formula was derived to streamline the well spacing calculation process,providing a practical design tool for field application.This method offers valuable guidance for the design of geothermal well spacing and supports the scientific planning,green development and sustainable utilization of geothermal resources.
