Effect of solid-solution temperature on the mechanical properties and microstructure of Ti-10Mo-6Zr-4Sn-3Nb alloy

Abstract
A novel type of metastable β-Ti alloy,Ti-10Mo-6Zr-4Sn-3Nb,has been developed,which could be used as orthodontic brackets and guide wires.The effects of solution temperature(790-830 ℃)on mechanical properties and microstructural organization of the alloy were investigated.The results show that after solid-solution,the grain size of the alloy increases compared to that of the one before solid-solution.A trace amount of α''martensite phase exits in the alloy,which has little effect on the mechanical properties.The solid-solution strengthening effect and the presence of large angle grain boundaries effectively hinder the movement of dislocations,thereby improving the strength of the alloy.After solid-solution at 820 ℃,the alloy exhibits the optimal mechanical properties,the yield strength is up to 1 020 MPa,and the elongation after fracture is 19.7%.关键词
