Abstract

The persistence of mercapto-modified attapulgite(ATP-SH)and mercapto-modified bentonite(Bent-SH)on remediation of soils with different levels of Cd contamination levels was explored through multi-season rice and rape potting experiments.ATP-SH applied to potting soil with Cd contents of 1.32 mg/kg,3.72 mg/kg,and 5.47 mg/kg,after two years of four seasons rice and rape production,the available Cd in soil and Cd content in seed in dif-ferent Cd contamination series all decreased significantly with the increase of ATP-SH addi-tion.The maximum decrease rates were 74.27%and 95.81%in the first season;84.41%and 93.06%in the second season;62.15%and 62.15%in the third season,63.75%and 84.30%in the fourth season,respectively.Bent-SH applied to potting soil with a Cd content of 6.11 mg/kg,after three years of three seasons rice production,the available Cd in soil and Cd content in rice showed a decreasing trend with the increase of Bent-SH addition.The max-imum decrease rates were 58.10%and 42.22%in the first season,57.35%and 73.10%in the second season,34.25%,96.58%in the third season.It was found that the passivation effect of the materials on Cd was closely related to the addition of materials,the bioeffecticacy of soil Cd,crop species,crop varieties,and flooding or farming environments.Both ATP-SH and Bent-SH can continuously reduce the activity of soil Cd,prevent the migration of Cd from soil to crop seeds,which have good persistence in the application of Cd-contaminated soil.
