Perceived Restoration Benefits of Campus Green Space Biodiversity and Audiovisual Influencing Factors in Four Seasons

Abstract
[Objective]To investigate the impact of green space biodiversity perception across four seasons on attention restoration and stress alleviation among university students,and explore the relationship between audiovisual factors and biodiversity perception,so as to uncover seasonal preferences and perceptual differences.[Method]Focusing on the green spaces and students at East Lake Campus of Zhejiang Agriculture&Forestry University,the paper quantifies audiovisual factors and biodiversity indices across 64 sample plots through field surveys and evaluates restorative benefits and biodiversity perception using electroencephalogram(EEG)data and questionnaire surveys.[Result]Exposure to biodiversity videos significantly improves psychological states.An elevated Theta/BetaH ratio(P<0.05)indicates enhanced involuntary attention,while a reduced BetaH/Alpha ratio(P<0.05)suggests stress relief,with the most pronounced effects observed in autumn and winter.Biodiversity perception(including plants,insects,birds,and habitat awareness)and preference are significantly higher in summer than in other seasons(P<0.05).The green view index consistently strengthens biodiversity perception across all seasons(P<0.05),whereas natural sounds positively influences bird perception.By contrast,the built view index demonstrates negative effects during winter.[Conclusion]Campus green spaces in autumn and winter are most effective for boosting involuntary attention,reducing stress,and promoting relaxation,whereas summer environments are more conducive to biodiversity perception and preference.The green view index and natural sounds emerge as critical facilitators of biodiversity perception,while built views and artificial sounds exert negative impacts.Future research should further examine cultural differences,long-term effects,and the contribution of environmental variables to restorative benefits.关键词
