Characteristics of Ancient Country Garden Based on Ancient Text Data Mining with Python and Their Revelations

Abstract
[Objective]To investigate the design characteristics and cultural connotations of ancient Chinese country gardens to provide historical insights for the localized development of contemporary country parks in China.[Method]Based on the 8 581 classical texts from the"Shi Dian Gu Ji"digital archive,we employ Python and TF-IDF methodology to combine semantic network model and text mining method for identifying high-frequency keywords and revealing essential features of ancient country gardens.[Result]From 1 079 extracted textual records related to country garden,we identify 45 high-frequency words,which are further categorized into four descriptive paradigms based on semantic features,including scenic elements,site selection,artistic conception of space,and recreational activities.The word frequency distribution pattern exhibits a distinct historical evolution,emerging in the Pre-Qin period,standing at the climax during the Tang and Song dynasties,continuing to develop through the Ming and Qing dynasties,and less recognized across other periods.[Conclusion]These high-frequency words reflect the consensus expressed in the ancient literary,underscoring the openness and primordial naturalness featuring classical garden design.The findings provide historical and cultural foundations for modern country park development in China while creating a smart method for the big-data-based research on landscape architectural history.关键词
