The Evaluation of Mandibular Dental and Basal Arch Forms of Skeletal Class ⅢMalocclusion Adults with Various Vertical Facial Patterns

Abstract
Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference of mandibular dental and basal arch forms of skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusion adults with different vertical facial patterns using cone-beam computed tomography.Methods According to the vertical facial patterns,48 subjects with skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusion were divided into three groups.CBCT images taken before orthodontic treatment were reconstructed,the widths and lengths of dental and basal arch were measured,and ratio variables which can represent arch forms were calculated.Use the quartic polynomial equation to generate the best fitting curve representing the arch,which helped to analyze the morphological differences of dental arch and basal arch among the three groups.Results The canine(P＜0.01),second premolars and molars(P＜0.05)segment widths of mandibular dental arch in the hypodivergent group were significantly greater than those in the normodivergent group and the hyperdivergent group.The premolars and molars segments lengths of dental arch in the hypodivergent group were significantly greater than those in the hyperdivergent group(P＜0.01).Combined with mandibular arch morphology and basal arch morphology measurements and curve fitting results can be shown that the anterior segments of dental and basal arch forms of the low angle group were more flatter.Conclusion The mandibular dental and basal arch forms of skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion adults are related to vertical facial patterns.The anterior,middle and posterior segment widths of mandibular arch in hypodivergent group are significantly larger than those in the normodivergent group and the hyperdivergent group.The anterior segment of dental arch form of the hypodivergent group is more flatter,and the anterior segment of basal arch form of the hyperdivergent group is more narrower.关键词
