Changes of Electrophysiological Responses over Time after Round Window Opening in Guinea Pigs

Abstract
Objective To report changes of auditory evoked potentials before and at different times after opening the round window in guinea pigs.Methods Seven healthy adult guinea pigs(14 ears)were randomly selected to be tested for electrically evoked auditory nerve compound action potentials(ECAP)(n=3,6 ears)or electrically evoked auditory brainstem responses(EABR)(n=4,8 ears)before and immediately and at 1,2,3,4,5 and 10 minute after opening the round window for inner ear exposure.For ECAPs,changes in thresholds and amplitudes of ECAP and electrically evoked summating potential(ESP)at different time points were compared;and for EABRs,thresholds and wave Ⅲ latencies across time were compared.Results After opening the round window,ECAP thresholds increased significantly at 5 and 10 minutes,with no significant differences in EABR threshold and wave Ⅲ latency at all time points.Conclusion Auditory function in healthy guinea pigs can be reduced by opening the round window with a correlation to the duration of cochlear,showing no significant change within 4 minutes but a decline after 5 minutes,potentially causing damage to hearing function.关键词
