Abstract

[Purposes]This paper aims to avoid the misjudgment of the traditional rut detection methods using line laser and improve the rut detection accuracy of asphalt pavement.[Methods]Based on the rotation and connection of the rut cross-sections and lane expansion technology at the pavement shoulder reference points,a full-lane cross-section rut detection method was proposed.The rapid measurement of rut cross-sections for a single lane was achieved based on the reference line determination method in relation to the elevation platform on the lane line.By comparing the rut cross-section maps detected by the line laser with those measured manually,the stability of the proposed method was evaluated through repetitive testing,speed impact analysis,and environmental interference experiments.Based on the detection data of 11 expressways with a total length of 2 000 kilometers in Jiangsu Province,a rut morphology atlas of asphalt pavement for expressways in Jiangsu Province was constructed.[Findings]The variation coefficients of rut detection results obtained by repetitive testing and speed impact analysis are less than 5.0%,indicating that the detection method proposed in this paper meets the requirement of repetitive testing accuracy.Moreover,it meets the requirements of rut detection scenarios for highways of different grades.However,environmental impact analysis shows that linear laser detection needs to be carried out on a dry road surface to avoid the influence of water film.The analysis of the rut morphology atlas in Jiangsu Province indicates that the compacted rut is the dominant rut type for the asphalt pavement of expressways in Jiangsu Province.[Conclusions]The rut detection method using line laser based on the reference line of the platform on pavement shoulder and lane line proposed in this paper can effectively improve the accuracy of rut detection on asphalt pavement,providing good support for the rapid and high-precision rut detection on asphalt pavement.
