Relationship between neutrophil/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio and the stability of asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis plaques

Abstract
Objective To study the relationship between neutrophil to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio(NHR)and the stability of asymptomatic carotid stenosis plaque.Methods From January 2022 to June 2024,clinical data of 117 patients diagnosed with asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis in the Outpatient Department of the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University were prospectively collected.These patients were then assigned to plaque stable group and plaque unstable group according to the stability of carotid plaques evaluated with ultrasound examination.The absolute values of neutrophils,serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels,and NHR of the two groups were compared.The relationship between NHR and carotid plaque stability was also analyzed.Results The absolute values of neutrophils in the plaque stable group and plaque unstable group were(3.43±0.78)×109/L and(3.51±1.15)×109/L,respectively.The serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were(1.83±0.64)mmol/L and(1.69±0.69)mmol/L,respectively.The NHR was 1.77±0.39 and 2.11±0.46,respectively.The difference in NHR between the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.05).The results of binary Logistic regression analysis indicated that NHR was an independent risk factor for the instability of asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis plaques(OR=4.743,P<0.001).Furthermore,NHR may represent a potential marker for the diagnosis of unstable carotid plaques(AUC=0.930).Conclusion NHR can predict the instability of asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis plaques and may have certain clinical value.关键词
