Abstract

In the scenario of large-scale renewable power plant(RPP)connecting to weak grid,the opposite weak grid has difficulties in providing voltage support capacity during faults,leading to off-grid of RPP and causing safety problems of the whole system.Therefore,large-scale RPP must possess fault transient voltage support capability.However,existing methods ensure only the self-protection of RPP,without guaranteeing power grid security.To address this limitation,a novel fault transient voltage support control strategy based on extended controllable boundary is proposed.The fault disturbance propagation is considered to build the extended controllable boundary,and the current command values are calculated through the grouping discrete mapping matrix.Referring to a typical scenario in Xinjiang,China,a simulation example is constructed in PSCAD.The validation results show that the RPP can safely,exhaustively,rapidly and flexibly provide transient voltage support capacity.When the voltage at point of common coupling(PCC)sags is higher than 0.4 pu,the system achieves at least 40%greater improvement compared to the current national standard.
