Treatment of Perimenopausal Dry Eyes from theTheory of Benefiting Qi and Warm-ing Yang

Abstract
Perimenopausal dry eye,a common ocular surface disease among perimenopausal women,has seen an increasing incidence in recent years.Symptoms such as ocular dryness,burning pain,and blurred vision significantly impair the quality of life in this population.Currently,Western medicine treatment for dry eye mainly consists of conventional dry eye therapy.For patients with severe perimenopausal symptoms who have dry eye,hormone replacement therapy can be adopted.however,its efficacy has a certain degree of controversy and risk.Based on the physiological characteristics of this patient group,Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)often focuses on nourishing liver Yin and kidney Yin.However,a subset of patients still experiences suboptimal outcomes or symptom recurrence with Yin-nourishing therapies.The benefiting Qi and warming Yang method,rooted in TCM theory of Yin-Yang and the Five Elements,addresses the core pathogenesis of perimenopausal dry eye:Kidney Jing deficiency,Yin-Yang imbalance,failure of Yang to transform Qi,and failure of Yin to take form.Representative Chinese medicines for this method include warm-natured substances such as Astragalus membranaceus,Pueraria lobata,Aconitum carmichaelii,and Cinnamomum cassia,supplemented with Yin-nourishing agents to tonify liver and kidney.This approach aims to replenish Qi and generate fluid,warm kidney Yang,and invigorate spleen Yang,thereby promoting the upward distribution of fluids to the eyes and restoring ocular surface moisture.Through a literature review,this paper summarizes the theoretical foundation of the benefiting Qi and warming Yang method,explores its intrinsic connection with perimenopausal dry eye,and offers a clinical perspective for TCM management of this condition.关键词
