Abstract

Polyethylene terephthalate(PET)is a polyester with the largest global production.The current dr-ying method for PET is hot air drying,which has the disadvantages of high energy consumption,low efficiency,and high carbon emission.Microwave heating is suitable for material drying because it can directly act on the inte-rior of the material.It has the characteristics of low energy consumption,high efficiency,and easy-to-realize au-tomatic control.Therefore,drying PET material by using microwave heating has obvious advantages.In order to overcome the problem of microwave uneven heating and prevent PET slices from"thermal runaway,"a uniform field distribution in the cavity is necessary.Accordingly,a special cylindrical cavity for microwave drying of PET slices is designed.Firstly,the resonance frequency of the cavity is calculated by using MATLAB software,and the mode numbers for cavities with different sizes is evaluated.Then the cavity with more modes is simulated u-sing COMSOL software,and the uniformity of field distribution is judged by the temperature coefficient of varia-tion.The radius of the cavity is determined to be 0.17 m and the height is determined to be 0.39 m.And then the effects of the feeder height and the rotation angle on S-parameters are simulated to determine the position of the feeder.The cavity operates within the frequency range of 2.4~2.5 GHz,with S11<-10 dB.Finally,the perform-ance of rotational and multi-frequency heating is jointly simulated using MATLAB and COMSOL,and the results show that the designed cavity has heating uniformity and high efficiency.
