Evaluation of salt tolerance and screening of comprehensive indicators at germination stage in sweet sorghum

Abstract
[Objective]Seed germination is the starting point of crop growth,and good salt tolerance during germination is an important prerequisite for the normal growth of sweet sorghum in saline-alkali soil.This study a to explore superior salt-tolerant germplasm in sweet sorghum and breed new varieties.[Method]Twenty-seven sweet sorghum samples were used,with deionized water as the control and 1.2%NaCl solution as the salt treatment.Elev-en indicators including germination potential,germination rate,germination index,vitality index,root-shoot ratio,as well as fresh weight,dry weight and length of buds and roots per plant were analyzed for differences.[Result]The indicators exhibited extremely significant differences among the treatments,except for the root-shoot ratio(P<0.01).The variation and correlation analysis of the salt tolerance coefficients of each index revealed a range of variation from-81.8%to-6.7%,with most seed germination indexes showing significant positive correlations with shoot growth indexes,and shoot growth indexes uncovering significant positive correlations with root growth indexes.Through principal component analysis,10 indexes,excluding the root-shoot ratio,were reduced to two comprehen-sive factors,with a cumulative contribution rate of 79.33%.It was concluded that the dry weight of single shoot and vitality index can serve as important indexes for evaluating the salt tolerance of sweet sorghum during germination.Using fuzzy membership function analysis,the comprehensive evaluation values of salt tolerance during germination for each material were calculated,and combined with cluster analysis,the 27 sweet sorghum varieties were classified into highly salt-tolerant type(5 varieties),moderately salt-tolerant type(3 varieties),salt-tolerant type(11 varieties),moderately salt-sensitive type(7 varieties)and highly salt-sensitive type(1 varieties).[Conclusion]In this study,five highly salt-resistant materials were selected,namely THL2,THL12,THL20,THL22 and THL30.关键词
