Abstract

Traditional villages,as vital carriers of Chinese civilization,hold critical significance for cultural inheritance and rural revitalization through the study of their spatial morphology.Addressing the under-researched status of traditional villages in the loess plateau region of western Shanxi province,this study focuses on Laibao village in Fangshan county,Lüliang city,Shanxi province,integrating literature review,field investigation,and GIS technology to analyze its historical evolution and spatial transformation.The findings reveal that the village's distinctive characteristics,including its"urban-rural adjacency"location,"dragon's spine spouting peaks"feng shui pattern,"kiln-wood hybrid"architectural techniques,"auspicious seclusion"decorative motifs,and"culturally inclusive"educational legacy,are shaped synergistically by natural geography,military defense needs,architectural technology integration,Taoist philosophies,and family-based educational practices.By constructing a cross-scale cultural framework and integrating a multidimensional"history-space-culture"analytical approach,the co-evolutionary mechanisms between material and spiritual dimensions is elucidated,offering new insights into the preservation and adaptive development of cultural heritage-based traditional villages.
