摘要

Abstract

Based on previous work on Stratigraphy and Palaeontology of western Yunnan,China,as well as field investigations of major sections in the Baoshan area conducted by the authors,this paper recognized 5 formation marine red beds(including 9 marine red beds)of Ordovician Period.The ages of these marine red beds confirmed by the fossils of graptolites,trilobites and cephalopods.They are the Yanging Formation marine red beds(including 2 marine red beds),the Mantang Formation marine red beds(Tremadocian),the Laojianshan marine red beds(including 2 marine red beds)or the Dakuangshan Formation marine red beds(Late Floian to Early Darriwilian),the Lower Pupiao Formation marine red beds(including 2 marine red beds)(Late Darriwilian to Sandbian),the Upper Pupiao Formation marine red beds(including 2 marine red beds)(Early to Middle Katian).All of them belong to shelf red beds(SRBs).On the basis of preliminary study of the red bed ages,this paper discusses:(D correlation between marine red beds in western Yunnan and contemporaneous marine red beds in major Chinese regions;(2)the widespread Dapingian marine red bed event in China;and ③ sedimentary models for the formation of Dapingian marine red beds in South China.According to currently available data,the global paleogeographic distribution of Ordovician Dapingian marine red beds is explored.Additionally,two genetic types of marine red beds are proposed as supplementary classifications.
