Abstract

To avoid the high cost and the complexity of advanced oxidation technology of SO4-·due to persulfate activation during application,the oxidation effect and influencing factors of Congo red(CR)by potassium persulfate(K2S2O8)alone were studied.The optimization of CR oxida-tion process is conducted by response surface method,and the toxicity of the intermediate prod-ucts is evaluated by genotoxicomics assays,so as to provide a reference for SO4-·based advanced oxidation technology applied to the treatment of dyeing wastewater.The results show that CR is oxidized effectively by K2S2O8.K2S2O8 addition,initial pH,temperature and initial mass concen-tration of CR,has different influence on the oxidation of CR,respectively.Moreover,according to the response surface method,the ranking of single factor is pH value>K2S2O8 addition>CR ini-tial mass concentration,the interaction between K2S2O8 addition and CR initial mass concentra-tion is significant,and the predicted CR removal efficiency is 61.4%,which is only 1.2%(<2%)lower than the measured value under optimal conditions.Genotoxicomic assay shows that although the stress toxicity of CR oxidation intermediates is significantly reduced under optimal conditions,some genes with overexpression and increased TELI value should not be ignored.
