Massive postoperative hemorrhage treated with foam sclerotherapy following internal hemorrhoid surgery:A case report

Abstract

Hemorrhoids are one of the most common anorectal conditions,typically presenting with symptoms such as rectal bleeding,prolapse,pain,and anal itching,and are prone to recurrence.Minimally invasive endoscopic treatments for internal hemorrhoids mainly include endoscopic band ligation and sclerotherapy,which offer advantages over traditional surgical approaches,such as simplicity,minimal trauma,faster recovery,and repeatability.On May 18,2021,the Department of Gastroenterology at the Fuyang Second People·s Hospital admitted a female patient who presented with recurrent rectal bleeding following internal hemorrhoid surgery.On May 19,2021,the patient underwent emergency hemostasis under colonoscopy.Endoscopic examination revealed wedge-shaped incisions around the perianal skin,ulcers with purulent discharge,multiple blue sutures with oozing blood,2 hemorrhoids,and multiple hemorrhagic blisters at the apex.Foam sclerotherapy was administered at 5 identified bleeding points to achieve hemostasis.Postoperatively,bleeding ceased,and the patient·s anal pain and sensation of fullness gradually improved.Follow-up showed no recurrence of rectal bleeding or anal discomfort,with a marked improvement in quality of life and satisfactory treatment outcome.
