Teaching reform and application effects of Gerontological Nursing Course in vocational nursing education driven by skills competitions

Abstract
Objective To explore the teaching reform and application effects of Gerontological Nursing Course in vocational nursing education.Methods Two classes of 3-year vocational nursing students(general college entrance examination track)from Grade 2023 were randomly selected from a polytechnic college.One class(n=61)was assigned to the experimental group and received teaching approach driven by skills competitions,while the other class(n=65)was served as the control group and received traditional teaching methods.After the course completion,student satisfaction,attitudes toward the elderly,knowledge scores on aging,and case analysis assessment performance were compared between the two groups.Results Student satisfaction was significantly higher in the experimental group than that in the control group(98.36%vs.67.69%,P<0.05).The scores for attitudes toward the elderly and knowledge of aging in the experimental group were also significantly higher in the experimental group than that in the control group(all P<0.05).Additionally,the proportion of students who achieved excellence scores in the case analysis assessment results was higher in the experimental group compared to the control group(70.50%vs.44.62%,P<0.05).Conclusions The teaching reform driven by skills competition demonstrates positive outcomes,enhancing student satisfaction in Gerontological Nursing Course,improving their knowledge of aging,fostering more positive attitudes toward the elderly,and strengthening their comprehensive geriatric nursing competencies.This teaching reform is worthy of promotion.关键词
